I presume i need to do another theory test for C

Then get a learners permit? I have my full C about 5 years so never had learners permit, but i
have already done a theory test for C, does that not count?

    Ye that's what I thought unfortunately :(

Do i apply for the EC1 on the learners permit aswell or is their any point? And does the whole 12 hours training thing apply to cars only?

The whole system seems to have changed so much in the past few years

    thanks

Just saw this on the RSA site
If you are applying for your first learner permit you must:

    * Include a theory test certificate for the relevant category along with your learner-permit application, unless the certificate has already been submitted

Mine would have been submitted when i got my C, could i not use this to avoid doing another one?

Theory tests are only valid for 5 years afaik... So any cert you had is no longer acceptable.

tbh I'm surprised you need another theory test for just adding a trailer.... If you already have a full licence for a vehicle and you want to draw a trailer, it seems a bit excessive to have to start from scratch....

I'm getting the EB myself soon, I got the provisional during the summer, but I didn't have to do a theory test as I had recently done one for my A permit. (turns out I didn't even need to do that one as I had got an A provisional within the last 5 years - oh well).

And another thing that annoys me is why you need the Full B/C/D category licence in order to get a permit for EB/EC/ED... it'd be so much easier to do the C test with a trailer and come out with C and EC.....

Driving a ridgid is totally different to driving an artic you have more blind spots etc as they say you have to learn to crawl before walking.;)

Davy I presume you have a full C licence& drivers CPC(grand fathered to you) if so just apply for your provisional EC licence as the theory test you done for the C licence will cover you.
If your Dublin based I can recomend to you a good driving school most drivers I know went through this school and passed first time.

I have a full C yes for a few years but I dont have the CPC, nor do I need it. But I can still apply anyway for the EC learners permit?

I have school sorted but thanks anyway

Meant to come back to this sooner. Was in the tax office, and was talking to one of the girls in there. She told me that I don't need to resit the theory test. I don't need to get another medical, and I don't even need to get another eye test as the ones i did to get C a few years ago are still valid, its only every ten years they need to be re-done.

I hope this saves someone time and money doing these tests and medicals.

    No you dont.
The Theory Test must only be re-done if it has expired 5 years or more.

I passed my C+E test last month. Applied for my new licence today in a local NDLS office. Great to finally add C+E/C1+E/B+E/D1+E to my licence :)

I was in a similar position at the start of the year, my provisional E+C (C+E) was due to expire in November, so it got me working on organising lessons and then the test itself. Get the ball rolling for yourself...you'll be glad when you pass and dont need to get another permit! ;):)
