    Hey,

Just wondering where people who graduated from civil engineering in the last two years are now....
    Are you still in Ireland?
If so do you have a job in engineering?

    Or have you emigrated?
    Where to?
    Have you an engineering job?

I myself just finished my master in Civil Engineering, I did it hoping things would have picked up from last year when I finished my undergrad but I think the opossite is the truth....

I graduated form Civil Eng in 2009, took a year out to develop this (www.eiresim.com) and now back doing a masters in Civil Eng. Will probably be booking flight away come September, this country is on its knees, especially for Civil Engineers.

I graduated in 2008, went travelling for a year, worked in an unrelated field for a year and am now doing a master's in the UK. Plan on living here for the foreseeable future.

Graduated in 2007, been working for 3 years. Handed in my notice there and have a new job starting in January.

Taking a risk moving job but I think it'll be better for my career.

Graduated in 2005, became Chartered last year, now working 2 days a week and paywise am down 78% compared to what I was on 2.5 years ago. 78% comes from the 2 day week and a salary cut. Wont leave my job but if I lose it I'll have to leave the country, and to be honest I really dont want to do that.

Got a job in online advertising in November 2009, graduated the same year from Civil Eng.

Now I'm doing a Masters P/T in Business Analytics and moving to a role as an analyst in January in the same company. It's not what I planned, but the work's challenging and secure.

I guess I had no choice but to open myself up to a different career path to stay here. The majority of people in the Masters are from Eng. backgrounds and are on the same page re Eng work - there just isn't enough of it around to feel in any way secure, so broadening the skill-set into a field where we can apply our mathematical/technical abilities seems the only way forward.

When I saw that site, I knew exactly who owned it. Memories of drawing T2 in Sketchup!

I finished my Masters in Mechanical Engineering this summer and now work for a technology company in the Netherlands.

Couldn't find anything back home. Much better opportunities abroad to do a lack of indigenous industry in Ireland.

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering (TCD) in May of this year and worked in an unrelated field until yesterday! Thinking of heading to Oz in the next 3 months if I don't get accepted to a graduate programme.

2009 Electronic Engineering graduate had to escape to get work. Thought I'd be able to come back after being gone for a year or two but unfortunately worse it got.

How is it over there in terms of work?

Hard to know, given my status I'm not really in a position to look for work outside of my sponsor. But out of interest I've kept an eye out and while I have seen quite a few jobs available there is also an ample supply of graduates here though due to the number of Universities around. I applied for much fewer jobs here than I did at home and I got many more replies from here, I've found that a lot of the companies at home seem to be very unprofessional when it comes to replying to applications even providing negative responses, it's very off-putting.
