The decision for last weeks fight against Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia was a joke. Phan definately won by far, but i was suprised how Joe Rogan slated the judges decision so publicly with such frustration. I believe the UFC and Strikeforce need to set up a judging school for judging bodies / athletic commission with the fighters present to learn more about the sport according to MMA live chat last night on ESPN

I Think theyre should be a test to determine whether you know a lot about the sport and also a LOT Of fans would love to Judge which is why they should set up a test if you want to become a Judge,

I remember reading about how to become a judge and it is shocking, don't think you really have to know anything about it.

Also Joe made the point that UFC have nothing to do with the selection process or training its all Nevada stateso you might find they think they do know everything or have a conplex so might not even attend a seminar the ufc would put on!

Also have to agree Nam won that hands down, did like joes comment in the next fight that if the guys didn't start working more the judges would probably give it to the mouse in the corner!

Simplest way to reform it would be to make each round worth 100 points, divided equally amongst the fighters.

Take for example, Randy Couture v B J Penn

    Round 1

Very close round, BJ just edges it so goes 55-45 to BJ

    Round 2

Another close round, BJ just edges it again so gets a 60-40, meaning BJ is leading 115-85

    Round 3

Randy totally batters and owns BJ, completely destroying him and wins the round 80-20

    Randy wins 165-135

Even though BJ won 2 very close rounds, the total decisive battering Randy gave him in the 3rd won the fight for him.

There are two issues with regards to that fight. One is the system being used and the other is judges who aren't competent enough

The current system enables you to score a fight for the fighter who you thought lost. I wouldn't be in favour of the system that scudzilla proposed because you've increased the variables by a hundred times. How do you decide between a 55-45 round and a 60-40 round? Everyone will have a different opinion on it. You need less variables and less room for a fight to be scored the wrong way

Dividing things into rounds does not help. If MMA had 12 rounds like boxing then it would probably even out but over three rounds if you're placing a score on each round it carries a lot more weight
