Do you have a Garage?

So from reading the various threads about de-icing, frozen engines, and gearboxes etc. I just realised how lucky I am to have my own garage. I have my car in there most of the time especially in bad weather and it saves it from the elements. There is also the added security benefit it brings.

It is a detached garage so I get wet walking to the house if it is raining, however I have found it to be a gift in this weather.

I plan to fit a remote control electric roll up door next year to it so I can use it more often besides just in extreme weather. Last year I put the car into the garage overnight and in the morning there was 3 big heavy roof tiles smashed down on its usual parking spot in the driveway outside!! Poor car had a narrow escape!!

If I even build a new house I will have an attached garage so I drive in and get out of my car and walk straight into the house like a basement garage or something. Still a detached garage is better than no one I suppose!

I have one - it's full of junk to be honest. Car goes in the driveway.

As regards defrosting, I got one of these (well 2 actually)

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_161489_langId_-1_categoryId_212446

It goes onto the windscreen in the evening, and I take it off in the morning along with the nights frost. Saved me a fortune on de-icer and gives me an extra 10 minutes in bed!

I have a detached garage. But I use it to keep my GSXR-600 in. I also built a bench along the back wall for working on stuff.

In hindsight, I should have kept one of my cars in it as well. But not sure I could choose between them.:(

I would literally give my right arm for a garage. Live in an apartment building at the moment so its impossible. If I ever buy/rent a house a garage is going to be one of the criteria.

I have never been able to understand how people buy houses with garages and turn them into another room...

    Tight squeeze.

All the rest are outside. E39 got snowed on while the cover was off so it has been under snow and exposed for a while now. No salt on it though.
edit: I have a dehumidifer running full time in there on a low setting.

    Jealous ;)

edit. btw, I've clicked 2 options as they are not mutually exclusive.

My mother's house has a detached garage. I keep my works in there, and my 84 rustheap being restored Mini in there sideways on dollies. It's about 2 miles away from my place, I'm glad my Dad was a petrolhead right up until he decided to go breaking cars up there like he used to do down here everytime he picked up a spanner.

I'm renting a unit too which'll take a car, but to be honest, if I ever get to be able to afford a house in Ireland (Which is doubtful), I'd want minimum 2 car garage side by side. Thankfully in Poland people have garages, and big ass ones at that, so if we buy there, I'll be sorted.

That's the pro kit from Halfords. Does the job. They do good deals on them from time to time. I got the top one free with the larger one. Both for 299.

Drive a C-class, in the driveway since the snow began 2 weeks ago. Came out earlier, started up no problem....happy days, turned on heater to remove last remaining frost on the windscreen.....CCCCCCCCCCCRRRRRRRAAAACK, fúckin windscreen.
Ah well fúck it I thought, drove off all the same and lit up a fag, hit my window button.....'le snap'...... fúcking window was frozen shut and snapped the window regulator cable inside :mad:

I'd love a big double garage with loads of space for tools & spare tyres etc. Somewhere i could just muck about with my car on the weekends. Ultimate dream would be to build a kit car some day in a comfortable, heated garage at my own pace in my own time.

    Ahh dream on.

I'm a luck git, I know this already.

I have an attached, and detached garage/workshop.

And I'm building another !! But I'm cheating a bit: I'm building it at work........and bringing it home on a truck ! (bit of an experiment, tbh...)

If it works out - I'll post pics up. If not,er.....I won't !

Detached 1 car garage. I've got it fitted out with some fitted kitchen units (freebie from a relative who got a new kitchen). Unfortunately it's full of boxes of the kids old toys, bikes, prams and son's quad so space is at a premium when I leave the E46 in there.

    Tiny attached one.
Can barely fit a saloon with almost no room to move around...

I would kill for a garage. I'd put a toilet and a bed at one end and live in it.

My in-laws have a triple garage with 2 bedrooms & living space above it. I would love it! I have a driveway with barely enough room for two cars :(

One of the lads is getting the pit built for his new garage at the moment, it will also have a 2 post in it eventually. The house he is building is also nice but it's the garage I am most jealous of! Can't wait to see the garage finished, especially if it gets the lift in the near future but furniture & stuff will probably be lore of a priority for his better half!
