    Hi All,

Anyone got any ideas on this. My buddy has a 2008 Audi A6 2.0 diesel & the diesel particulate filter is blocked (mechanic has confirmed this). Doesn't want to shell out for a new one. Is there anyway of clearing it out or bypassing it. Mechanic says he has burned some out in the past & that sometimes works. Anyone got a cheap solution.

    Tim

There is a wat to get around this.

The particulate filter pressure sender detects when the filter is getting block. If a regeneration is not done soon enough and the blockage increases above a certain point the car will go into limp mode making it impossible to clear.

You can replace the sender and erase the fault which enables you to get out of limp mode. Then you should be able to regenerate the filter.

Car goes into limp mode to protect against the soot catching fire so you have been warned although this would be extremely rare.

I was told the cause of this is using lower standard or wrong type engine oil. As you know driving around on short trips will have the same effect!

Thats true. And I heard that you must use longlife oil when the car is fitted with a dpf.

I always use the longlife oil. Also the proper long life oil. Example the 1.9 TDI takes 5W-40 according to Castrol and VW. Then the 1.9 with a DPF takes 5W-30. Both longlife oils but I would say using 10W/40 and the likes could cause damage.

You need to use low SAPS oil (low sulphated ash, phosphorus, sulpher) with a DPF - and so you need to pay careful attention to the VW approved oil specification codes)

VW 507 00. According to Castrol. Can be a very expensive mistake!!
