iPod issues

My friend has tried to connect her iPod to her laptop. When she does so, iTunes displays a message along the lines of - iTunes cannot read the contents of this device. Please go to Preferences to restore to factory settings.

however, when she clicks the restore button, a windows explorer opens, as if expecting a file. But she doesn't have a restore file - and I wouldn't expect a restore file if reverting back to factory settings

    Anyone have any ideas?

As fair as I can remember there's an option in the settings on the iPod itself to restore to factory settings. Shouldn't be too hard to find there, hope that helps

Hi Recon - thanks for the tip. We've tried that, but to no avail.

Has the iPod worked on a different computer, and has a different iPod worked on her laptop?

If you could check that you'd know where the problem is. Re-installing iTunes could be a solution too, it does seem to mess up from time to time.
