Last few morning when i have come out it's like the gear box is frozen  The car cant be put in gear. If i let it run for a 5-10 mins its fine. Not causing me any probs when i'm driving etc it's a 407

It there possible longterm damage that could happen and why does this happen as i have a skoda and it does not freeze.

    Thanks

It's no where near cold enough to freeze transmission fluid.

Couldn't be frozen but it could be dirty. No harm in changing the gearbox oil.

Have heard of this happening in 407's before....not an uncommon problem from what I hear. Can't remember exactly what caused it but could be something along the lines of a seal gone dodgy, moisture getting in and the moisture freezing causing the problem. As for the long term damage question....can't help you on that one.

This happened with my Ford Focus and I ended up having to get a new clutch.

Trying pumping the clutch pedal a few times to prime the cylinder.

My mini did this last year when temps dropped below -10. Couldn't move gear stick at all unless i left the car running for a few mins. After the freeze cleared i had no more problems. I dont think it was the oil that was frozen, just the links/moving parts in the transmission.

Could it be moisture that has frozen in and around the linkages?

What happens is moisture in the cables from the gear stick to linkages freeze.
The only way out of this is to run the engine for 20 mins+ and the exhaust temperatures will thaw them out....Peugeot know about this and have been onto peugeot in alot colder countries and the only solution is to inject antifreeze into the cables.
Do not force the gearstick otherwise the cables will snap and you will have to fit new cables.
Its better to leave it in neutral and the hand brake off if you can.
Thats if you don't live up on a hill......:)
