    Hi guys,I can't find the answer in my notes,

    Q. Give 3 reasons why programmable controllers are more suitable for industrial applications than hard-wiring control methods?

    1. Allows control(s) or control sequences to be changed easier if required. No need to change wiring, just change the program.

    2. The wiring in the controlled process is a lot simpler, less wiring design needed.
    3. The running of the programme can be seen on a screen and so finding problems in the circuit is easier than in hard wired.

    Yes thats another good one, a good space saving in cabinets instead of lots of timers and relays.

    In addition PLCs can:

    1) Carry out complex mathematical calculations.
    2) Monitor efficiency/productivity.
    3) Be connected to servers to store historical data.
    4) Can be used to run multiple "recipes" or sequences at the push of a button without the need to rewire.
    5) Can be connected to powerful HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) such as SCADA systems.
    6) Can implement logic at a far higher level than would be possible/practical with a hard wired system.
    7) Fault finding is far more straight forward. For example PLCs can be used to inform maintenance that an instrument is out of calibration, shorted out or suffering from a wire break.
