Tottenham v Chelsea

The biggest league game of the season for us. We could do with the 3 points in this one to keep us in touch with the leaders. Chelsea are going through a rough match at the moment and hopefully it will continue. Cole, Anelka and Boswinga are injured so hopefully they will miss out. A win for us and a draw in the united/arsenal game would be great.
Will Van Der Vaart make it lads?

    Chelsea lost 1-0

Well I'm a Newcastle supporter but I think Harry Redknapp is great so I'd love Spurs to win this weekend.

Chelsea are not playing well at the moment so I reckon Tottenham will win 2-1

I really hope Boswinga is out and Bale is up against Paulo Ferrera. He will destroy him every time.

What happend to Chelsea do ya think

Its hard to know really. They were playing some smashing football at the start of the season. I think the injuries they got to Terry, Boswinga and Essien really messed them up. Then Malouda lost form a bit.
When Essien came back he went and got suspended. Also I think Drogba is still suffering from Malaria. They don't seem to have a settled team at the moment and the players on the bench are not good enough for the premier league.

Yeah it's a weird one. I also believe that they miss Lampard more than any other player. I'm hoping their form continues and as Kakee mentioned, that Bale is up against Ferrera as he has no pace.

If VDV isn't 100% he shouldn't play - we beat these lads last year without him when they were playing a lot better, so hopefully we'll do the job this year as well.

Spurs to win 3-1. we gonna kick their posh arses around White Hart Lane with or without Van the Man.

    Yid Army!!!!

Think this is either gonna go one of two ways.

We'll play them off the pitch and finish up maybe 3-1 or 4-1.

    Or

Chelsea will find their touch and hammer us that they will do to somebody.

I just hope it's the former.

This reminds me of posts on here last January before Spurs trip to Anfield. Spurs were on an unbeaten five-game run (including Wigan 9-1) and Lpool were going through a bad patch. We thought we'd win 3-1, 2-0 or even 4-1.
    And what happened...we lost 0-2.

This is exactly how I see it. Chelsea have to come out of their slump at some stage, and the Spurs of old used to be a great team to end the other teams run of poor form. Let's just hope that the lads are up for it and that Sunday isn't the day it all clicks for Chelsea!

Chelski are having such a bad run but some poor team is going to meet them when they hit form and get a hammering. I don't think Spurs will be that team, with the momentum of the last 3 weeks behind us I reckon we'll give them a good seeing to at the Lane! 3-1 win.. Bale hat-trick!:p

I dont know what to say about this match. I agree that do seem to be the team that turns other teams bad streak into a good one so I am very nervous over it. Haven't a clue what our team will be like with the injuries and all but I'll give it a go.
    Gomes
    Hutton --- Gallas --- Bassong --- BAE
    Lennon --- Modric --- Palacios --- Bale
    Van Der Vaart
    Defoe/Crouch

I dunno who'd I'd prefer between Crouch and Defoe, and dont know if Mod/VDV are fit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭kakee

I would go with crouch and defoe for this one. With Crouch beating Terry for height and Defoe beating Ivanovic for pace I think they will get goals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Cianan2

Is Terry back? I didn't see their game last night. If he is, that is some extra leadership that they had been missing for the past few weeks - I hope he isn't back yet!!

I also agree with the post re: Bale vs Ferreira. This is the kind of RB that Bale would thrive against, and I hope he gets back on the score sheet this weekend. He really seems to be a big game player, what with Chelsea, Arsenal last season and Inter (x2) this season - not like a lot of "World Class" players, who don't show up in the big games no matter what is being said about their ability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭kakee

    Yeah Terry is back alright.

This is how I see it.
    It will be tight.
We will either win 2-1 or draw 2-2.
Centre of midfield will have to be won.
I hope Wilson can break it up quickly and give it to Modric.
I would give the second half to Sandro when Wilson burns out.
    For me Crouch/Defoe.
They are like the "Bostik Brothers" of old (Ruel Fox/Chris Sutton).
Defoe looks sharp and should have Terry & Ivanovic in his pocket.
Bale up against whoever will Bale Hay!
There is a bad atmosphere at Chelsea at the moment.
Abromovich is doing an "Ashley" at Chelsea and I don't think he realises how much the players liked Ray Wilkins.
    Bad Karma!
I also would like to wish Chris Hughton all the best for the future.
He is a gentleman and a great manager.
I was at Newcastle last year and Chris was highly spoken of by the Toon.
Ashley's actions will relegate Newcastle with "flash boy" Pardew.
Newcastle are now West Ham mark 2!
    Poor Geordies.

    VDV/JJ/Niko/Hudd/King/Woodgate/OHara remain out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭sniffingchimp

I think having Modric back for this match will really help us out - he retains possession so well and is a great threat going forward, I fancy us winning this one as long as BAE starts getting control of his passing a bit.

Hopefully another good performance from Gallas, and fingers crossed a big game for Bale, he always seems to play out of his skin in the big ones.

And BBC now saying Lampard, Cole and Anelka back for this match? Hmm, not good news.

Wasn't it BAE's passing, that got us a couple against Arsenal?

That may be so, but in general his passing is woeful at times.

I know BAE seems to be split a lot of people down the middle in this forum, but I'm definitely wary of his passing game.

I'm one of those that isn't very fond of him but he has improved! Can't say the same for his hair though.. A new left back in the summer or January and down the wings we'll be laughing.

I honestly can only think of about 2 or 3 left backs in the premiership that are better that BAE on his day! Partial inconsistency and a tendency to lash out are his biggest cons.

BBC now claiming that lamps is definately out for sun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Cianan2

I read that Lamps isn't available, thanks be to god. God Chelsea really have missed him!

Any chance VDV could make the bench, even? I'd be delighted if it was the case, though as been pointed out many times before I really wouldn't want him risked if he isn't capable.

Bale to be our hero yet again, really looking forward to this!

smashing game. draw a fair result i think.

credit where credit is due john terry was an animal today.

great pen save by gomes but he was poor for the drogba goal.

though pav had a decent game, great goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

Very dissapointe draw probably a fair result but Gomes had to do better for Drogbas goal.

BAE was our man of the match IMHO, he had a great game.

Assou-ekotto was brilliant today all right in fairness Chelsea played better than us but we were brilliant defensively Dawson was brilliant Gomes was so disappointing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Cianan2

Benny was smashing today. We were both lucky and unlucky today, I expected a lot more from Bale tbh.

Was strange that Keane was brought on for Pav - he gave nothing to what was being given from Pav already.

personally i think pav was way more effective. dont know weather keane didnt get into the game or what.

Lucky to get a draw in the end. Gomes was shocking for the goal and the pen incident, just aswell he saved it ;)

Nice to see Daws back, it will take him 3/4 games to get match sharpness back in full. Bale was quiet...

Some very winnable games over Xmas, fingers crossed...

Agree with most of what's been mentioned already. There's no way Gomes should've let that ball past him. Let it his your chest, face, whatever - it was straight at you. No excuses and I was as angry with that goal as I was with the first Arsenal scored in the Emirates. I think the penalty decision was correct, but it was unlucky for Gomes and a case of bad timing rather than anything else. He did really well to save it though as I assumed it was game over.

BAE was brilliant, Bale was very, very quiet and has been for a few games now - I don't know whether it's a case that he's been found out a bit or whether he's not quite on the top of his game. Cracking goal by Pav. Modric was good, and it was really good to see Dawson back - he'll only get better and sharper and I thought him and Bassong were excellent. Disappointed to only draw having gone ahead but to be honest, I don't think our performance warranted the win. We really need to be sharper up front.

I also agree that Terry was brilliant today, he didn't put a foot wrong and it's the best I've seen him play for some time. All in all, happy to get the point considering we were so close to losing it, but disappointed not to have taken 3.

i heard a rumour a while ago form a lad who knows a lad who is in the know(sounds like a chinese whisper i know!) that bale is struggling with a knock of some discriptions think it was a hamstring or something n he is very very tired. as i say its a rumour n been passed around a few different mouths so not sure what truth is in it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

BAE was only bettered today by Terry IMHO. Draw was a more then fair result in the end and I can see the crowds turning on Drog over that miss.

I thoughts the refereeing was piss poor today. Missed frees on both sides that were very very obvious.

Just watched this on MOTD....between Essien's hatchet job on Bale, Terry tugging Defoe's jersey in his so-called "amazing tackle" and Drogba's blatant handball, I'm revising my view that a draw was a fair result!

I hope Cole is banned retrospectively for his two footed lunge on palacios thats the kind of thing that would easily break someone's leg disgraceful tackle and surprised no one seems to be mentioning it
