    23/03/07 - 08/12/10 :(

Finally my launch PS3 died tonight while playing black ops. Damn YLoD.

What Sony charge these days? One of my other consoles died in 2008 but they fixed that for free. I'd like to get black ops back ASAP but I don't think you can use the fan cycle trick on an original 60GB ps3.

A refurb console is probably the best option because I don't want to update my other console. Do they still charge €150 for one?

Better off flogging your broken one, I got 80 yoyos for my YLOD, and buying a new slim, refurbs only have a 6mth guarantee from Sony.

Ugh what a pain in the **** this is! :D

I'd sell it if I could get black ops out, otherwise I'd be taking €50 - €70 for the YLOD console and then spending €50 on re-buying black ops and then having to buy a new console. I'd jump at the Sony offer, all I have to do is bring my console in to GameStop and they will give me a 60 gig replacement same day(if they have one in stock), take payment of €160 and send my console back to Sony. Only problem is that the guy on the Sony helpline said it could take up to 6 weeks for my game to be returned.

Not going to win either way, am I?

No fan cycle on the 60GB launch model do that wont work. But not to worry.

I took the PS3 apart about an hour ago and stuck a hairdryer on the motherboard because I'm too cheap to buy a heat gun. It did a 2 minute fix though which was enough time for me to get the game out before it died again.

I called gamestop today and they'll give me an 80 gig replacement for €160 if I bring over the console tomorrow so I'll go with that. If it wasn't coming up to christmas I'd probably just buy a new slim but oh well.
