I think the wood pigeon is on the list of what not to shoot in the cold spell.
Find where there feeding and put out a few shells and that will get you going.

Find out what they are feeding on.

Shoot a pigeon coming to roost some evening and see what he has been eating,

If he is full of clover or wheat or barley or peas etc find the nearest field and set up there.

They stick together this time of year so it should be good shooting if you find them.

pigeons are on the list ,and they are having a really hard time it would be no sport decoying them during this unless they are damaging a crop and need shooting ....i think they taste rank this time of year anyway...... mags and greycrows are fair game .

anyone i shot in the last week was a fat as a pinkeen and that stuffed to the gills with whitethorn berries the crops are at bursting point
i can see the point in wildfowl/waders being given temporary protection but woodies :confused:madness the country is full of them and has been all year

Yep - it really is an oppertunity to get on top of the vermin. I've nailed several foxes and hoodies in the last 48 hrs alone:)

Fair point - I assume they migrate like their cousins in Europe to milder parts of the coutry when other areas are covered in snow. Last winter certainly didn't appear to reduce their numbers in these parts going on the amount in crops during this years harvest
