Lee v Martinez

It would be great to see alright, I will probably will get lambasted for saying this but I reckon Lee would have a decent chance against Martinez.

Neither Zbik or Lee is a draw so if they're going for either it would make sense to take the mandatory.
I don't see it happening, it would be great for Lee to get his shot if it did but i'd give him no chance

    Lee would get destroyed imo.

Looks like this is going to get the green light.

I fancy Martinez to win but i don't think it will be as one sided as many think. I reckon Lee would've given Williams and the version of Pavlik that Martinez beat nightmares.

This could be off. Dan Rafael has up on his twitter that hbo are now pushing for Martinez to fight Sergei dzinzirek (never heard of him) instead. Bad news for andy if it's true

lee needs to fight start fightin b level fighters before he shud even think about fightin a level fighters like martinez. He'd get throttled in a couple of rounds if went in with martinez at this stage.

I thought this was a wind up when I first seen it lol
In all fairness this is taking the piss.
I used to think lee was going to the top, but over the last few years I've seen his weaknesses ,mainly his terrible stamina.

HBO will have the final say in this. They have three opponents to choose from: Lee, Zbik and Dzinziruk.

Lee is a much bigger name Stateside than his two fellow European counterparts but I think they'll get this one ahead of him. Most likely Dzinziruk will get it.

Lee is ranked nicely at 160 and while it lacks any star names it is littered with b level fighters that could hand him a loss. I do agree he needs some more experience but no point in throwing away your ranking

Lee's just not that good. I've been to a few of his fights, followed him and cheered him on, but Sergio Martinez would absolutely murder him. Lee hasn't arrived on the world scene simply because he's not good enough.

    Martinez by brutal KO

Andy lee will stop Martinez and i will be laughing my hole off at the so called experts who couldnt spot talent or potential if they were paid.

Cant wait to see all the U-turns on all the boxing forums from the experts.

A little word of advice , Emauel steward sees something none of you guys could spot and remember he could of dropped Andy years ago but what did he do a couple of months ago? offered him a new contract...

Did freddie Roach go out of his way to help Macklin? NO. Why? no potential...

Sergio's footwork is just brilliant and lee wouldn't be able for it.Maybe I was a bit harsh in my previous post when I said, is this a piss take.Lee is a great boxer,I've seen all his fights have loads of respect for him,but I just think Sergio beats him.
Call it a bad match up.Then again I could be wrong and you see something I don't, so why don't you share it instead of saying Emanuel see something we don't.I think it's fairly obvious lee is a fantastic boxer,so no he doesn't see soemthing we don't.But I think it's also obvious he his weaknesses too.If he could sort them out, he would be world champ at some stage. But not against Martinez.
And btw I think Lee beats both Macklin and Duddy.

Nobody has studied Martinez with a better view than Steward had working for HBO, i bet my left nut he has spotted something that he thinks Andy can exploit..

But you asked what do i see? Martinez is a rhythm fighter when working outside, he dances around the ring and then darts in with fast feet and runs off combinations and back out again..
If you watch the Pavlik fight again you will notice that pavlik was wining the middle rounds and the fight in my IMO once he had Martinezs rhythm down..

In the middle rounds Pavlik who is a flat footed fighter unlike Lee started to take a step back whenever Martinez rushed in and belted him the Jab, Pavlik was able to this with the slow ass hands he has unlike Lee who has pretty fast hands.

Every time Pavlik did this he disrupted Martinez and i could see he was in complete control of the fight until Martinez managed to cut his second eye and he ended up blind and had a **** cornerman who hadnt a clue how to stop bleeding...

Im no Pavlik fan but he was winning that fight after he figured out how to disrupt Martinezs rhythm and of course the off balance knock downs helped too.

People like to forget the details of a fight and just remember the result...

If Lee runs after Sergio around the ring like Williams he will meet the same fate and get counter punched into ****, especially early..

But if Lee lets him come to him and do the simple thing like Pavlik and take a step back and jab or even better once he has him timed an uppercut ( which is a punch nobody has thrown and is there if you time his rush in) Then Lee will win this for me...

One final thing go check out the records of Manny stewards former world champs ie Mclellan and mcrory and you will notice that they only fought complete scurbs before they boxed for world titles yet they still won...

I don't think Manny's found a weakness more so if Andy puts on a relatively good performance he'll finally get some exposure and get people noticing him.

Sergio's accurate, comes at your from different angles and his output is impressive, Lee won't be able to handle him, I'd put serious money on Sergio by KO within 8 rounds.

Lee will get stopped late in the fight. He might outbox Martinez for 4 or 5 rounds - after that, his tank will go and he'll be taking shots from all angles. I really want to see him rematch with Brian Vera. He needs to reclaim that loss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭Spazdarn

I think there was some excuse for that loss, over training, illness, but I agree he has to redeem himself there..

Listen , dont be daft , Steward and Lee wont be signing to fight Martinez so they can look good losing. Thats just plain retarded...

They are in it to win it without a doubt.

Lee is ranked No.5 by the WBA and he could of got a shot at the much easier Sturm if he wanted. But he chose to fight the number 1 guy in the division and that has to be applauded not ridiculed...

They'll obviously look to win, but it's unlikely, this is arguably Martinez's deserved easy fight.

"Don't be daft", Lee didn't choose to fight Martinez... it'll have been Martinez choosing to fight him. Like everyone else at the bottom of the pile, very few people are going to turn down a shot at

    1. A champion
    2. A big HBO/PPV main event
    3. Loads of money that he'd never have gotten close to earning in his previous fights.

Yes i know everyone sees this as a easy voluntary for Martinez but i dont and i made my reasons clear...

Yes Lee did choose fight Martinez the main man and he encouraged Manny steward to get him the fight.
Did Lee earn the fight? NO. But who does earn world title shots nowadays? cant remember the last time i seen a eliminator for a Middle weight world title....

There are easier options out there for Lee...

This fight wont be PPV either just regular HBO. Martinez will earn a cool million for this defence and Andy is the only guy willing to fight for 100,000 and thats why he will most likely get it.

You have to believe in yourself to take such a risk, fair play to Lee.

Yeah I know Martinez has a deal with HBO but they're not happy with any of the three options presented to him.

Don't get me wrong I like Lee, I've went to three of his fights and seen many others but I just don't believe he's world class, especially considering he hasn't had beaten any B level fighters...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Benny Lava

    Vera rounds 3-7
    Belghecham rounds 9 & 10
    Gibbs round 10
Nearly all of the fights with Sipos and Fedotovs

These are the best fighters Lee has faced (which says something in itself) and look how much success they had in landing on him. None of them are massive punchers by any means and they all looked to have him somewhat rocked. I think you can guess what will happen if Martinez finds it as easy to land on him.

We have no evidence that his defence has improved since these fights. Instead of facing a higher level of opposition he has faced 40 year old non-punch throwing bums. How anyone can see Lee beating Martinez is beyond me.

Any news on whether this fight is a runner or not? If not who is next up for Lee? Hope it is someone credible as I think he needs a big test and big performance to prove his doubters.

Martinez is fighting Dzinziruk according to this:

HBO pushed it through... the other options weren't all that great either.
