Long Term Illness Book & Moving Abroad?

    Hi Folks,

I am currently on the Long Term Illness Book and receiving medication from my local pharmacy once a month for the condition in question. Recently, thoughts of emigration to mainland Europe have being coming to my mind, in-spite of the fact I have managed to get work here, as an Irish citizen.

However, I am unsure about how this would affect my medication and its availability. Would it be possible for my family to post it on to me? I suspect that this would probably be a no-no, after watching the programme about state customs on the TV this evening.. basically saying that it was illegal to mail in/out any type of drug from this country, no matter how legit it might be. Would I still able to claim the medication free in the European country if I was working there and paying taxes? Or would my I be allowed to stockpile so many months medication here in Ireland in advance of going and then take them with me?

I would of thought you would have to be living in ireland for you to get you medication and if you left the state you defo won't be entitled to it if your living overseas.

I had a suspicion that that might be the case, but would still like to know if there is some sort of Europe-wide scheme, if one exist.

It all depends on your destination country.

Either France or Germany. Will soon be living in house with all French speakers... living in hope that they will be obstinate Franophiles! Compel me to learn their lingo.
