    can someone please help me.

i have a solid fuel stove (not sure if i can mention make) and oil central heating.

my house is freezing and lukewarm water in shower.

here's an example of how bad it is, heating was on yesterday evening for an hour while stove was lighting up, had stove lighting from 6.00 til 1.00 with lots of coal and logs on it but it was only heating the sitting room. a couple of rads were lukewarm from it.

oil heating was on again for 3 hours during night as i don't want pipes to freeze, got into shower this morning and it was lukewarm.

if i put immersion on for 30 mins, shower is excellent so i know it's not a problem with shower.

my house is only 2 years old.

i've had bad experiences with plumbers from when i was building house but if someone could recommend a good one in the wexford/carlow area i'd be delighted.

i'm at the end of my tether, can someone please help.

Is the circulating pump working correctly?

i'm not sure but i think so.
every so often a noise starts that sounds like a pump.
when heating was on last night before i went to bed, the noise got really bad and i turned stove down to 0.
    it stopped after a while.
this often happens when both heating and stove are on.

Sounds to me like the pump or it's associated thermostat. Maybe you have only one pump? There should be one pump for the back-boiler and another for the oil central heating, but either the back-boiler pump is not spinning, or the stat is set too high or defective. Look for a stat on the pipe coming from the back-boiler, with cable to the pump - check the setting - probably set about 40 degrees - when you turn it down, it should click and the pump should run. If the pump body is much hotter than the pipe, it's stuck. If the noise sounds like hammering, that would be steam bouncing the water in the pipes due to no pumped circulation.

Also check for a thermostat on the hot water cylinder. It may be set low. The immersion has a different thermostat.

It sounds like the thermostat for the pump on the solid fuel stove is set too low try turning it up to 60 deg.

    thanks for your reply EosEnergy.

as far as i know there is only one pump. i'll have a look later.

the noise does sound like hammering.

thanks for all the replies. i think there's one thermostat for the hot water cylinder that's set around 40, the only other thermostat i ever noticed was out in the oil burner thingy.

i'll check them all out later.

    thanks again.

40 is too low, it should be about 50 degrees.
