Stamp Duty

With regard to stamp duty, we purchased a house earlier in the year but have yet to sign the deeds for the property. When does the stamp duty get paid? If its already paid we've just got a kick in the balls but if it only gets paid on signing across of the deeds then we might just have saved ourselves a few thousand.

I am pretty sure you pay it whern you sign over the house at the end of the process.

There is also a provision that people who have signed contracts but not yet paid can avail of the new rates if they close by a certain date.

I'd advise contacting your solicitor for full info

It is typical of measures we have been seeing with FF government...

    Out of sync with reality.

Reduction in stamp duty makes hardly any difference to anyone for the following reasons other than people who have plenty of money to go buying a house in a economical climate like this.

The deeds usually happen later, after closing. Surely you know if you paid stamp duty or not?
