I had an interview last Thursday in the UK. I am waiting to have word back still. Anyway today I received a reference from my previous employer.

Do you think it is a good idea to email it to the employer at this stage and say I've just received the reference and could they include it with my application?

Why not phone them up, thank them for the interview and ask them do they want you to forward the reference you just received.

It might be their procedure to wait until they offer you the job before checking out your references.
