you have a goat a cabbage and a wolf with you on one side of a river with no way across except a small boat which can only carry 2 of them and yourself at a time. SO how do you get them all to the otherside the same way they are before they left?
you have no phone, internets or fire making equipment to make a smoke signal to call in a helicopter from the nearby army base either...and no its too far across to throw them over

Take the cabbage and the wolf, leave cabbage, bring back wolf.Collect goat and return with goat and wolf. Presumably when you're there you can prevent wold eating goat or goat eating cabbage.

Saves all that bother building dams !
