    Hi,
I'm looking to get a new tv for the living room. I understanding from reading the forum that I should get one with mpeg4, so it would be compatible with saorview. We have sky digital in the other room in the house, but won't be getting the multiroom as don't have phoneline. Will I need a freeview box to get the uk stations on my new tv? Was looking at the sony 32BX300 32" which is in tesco for 349euro, or this 42" one in powercity http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-42LD45 for 530euro . I read a good review on the forum for this 32" sony http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-12-32V581 however at 550 it seems expensive for a 32". So my question is which freeview box would you recommend, and which of the above tv's or similar? Are any of the powercity boxes any good? And if I buy a tv in the north will it be compatible with saorview once it's mpeg4?
Thanks and apologies for my lack of understanding  when it somes to tv's!!

I doubt if anything in Tesco works in Ireland...same with Argos.

Powercity would be a much better bet.

Tesco in UK has "freeview HD" stuff (works), but Tesco here in Ireland only has ordinary "Freeview" stuff, which is useless.

A freeview terrestrial receiver will only work if you are within range of a UK transmitter i.e. located near the border or certain areas of the east coast. A freesat satellite receiver connected to your current Sky satellite dish may be a better option.

The Sony 32BX300 in Tesco is MPEG-4 compatible, see this post for link to manual.

The Sony 32V5810 is MPEG-4 compatible and also has a freesat/FTA satellite receiver built-in (hence the higher price I guess), I own the W5810 (100 Hz version) - receives both the Saorview DTT channels and the UK channels (from satellite). Do a search for "5810" here in this forum for other posts regarding this range.

Power City sell the only currently 100% certified Irish DTT STB receiver from Walker.

Any TV with an MPEG-4 decoder should have no problem receiving the Saorview DTT channels even if you buy up north, be sure to check the specs before you buy or post here on the forum if you're not sure.
