Semi V Full Auto (Inc Burst-Fire)

    This topic comes up every now and then, but I was browsing a couple of fora and it just struck me that there seems to be a very clear divide in mindsets, and no real wiggle room.

    The three types of fire are:
    - Semi Auto
    - Burst Fire (few shots per trigger squeeze)
    - Full Auto (think John Woo)

    What I have noticed is that there is a strong presence of people advocating 'Semi Only' rules, whilst being opposed by two camps - one who says that Full Auto isn't that bad and should be allowed for it drastically reduces cheating (through force), and the other who says that it's each to their own. What are the merits of Semi-Only rules?

    Personally speaking I use semi exclusively, but that's the way I play, and wouldn't want to force it upon others. What I do think is that the main issue that people take with Full Auto is mag capacity, and I do believe it is an AEG issue. People have a problem with 'Hosing' - a GBB and GBBR only have real cap mags, so hosing is not a good idea...these will usually fire in semi or burst. However with an AEG, there is a greater deal of ammo. What way do you play, and why? What's your opinion on the other firing styles etc?

    Usually just use bursts myself or when I want to be silly I'll full auto (never to hit someone, just to stop them from moving). I'll use semi when I'm up close or in and around buildings to limit the chance of hurting someone and of course for that reason it's one of the rules at HRTA mentioned in the safety briefing, which we do like to be followed.

    usually just semi but occasionally i use a very short burst...on any given sunday, i use 1000-1200 bb's at most

    I used to be a mad fullauto'er back in the day when I'd go out with 4 hicaps and a small bag of ammo and at the end there wouldn't be much left. Now I'd go out with 4 midcaps and probably empty 1 a game firing semi only.

    Firing style is about how much ammo you've on you too..if you're in a game with 10 people and you've 9 hicaps you don't need to think about the rounds you're firing but if you've 4-5 mids and there are serious firefights about you'll be more cautious.

    I've seen people do the "omg he's behind that wall" and then drop about 4 hicaps full auto on the wall to keep him there, semi shots about every 3 seconds would keep him there too and leave enough ammo to engage other people after the guy has been hit.

    Small bursts are handy too but semi does the job equally well.

    :)

    Semi/burst = control
    Full auto = last resort
    Grenades = group use
    Kari Byron = sexy
    Thread = old

    What he just said ^^^

    You can keep someone pinned with a single round every time they decide to pop their head out to see if you're still there, as if you lay in with a constant stream.

    I don't want to drag in the magazine issue, btu I have to say, when I have a hi-cap in (which I do use and I don't have any problem with using) I do find myself being wayyyyy less conservative with the shots I take and with how I use the rounds.

    But, in general, I use burst fire, cause it stops people thinking it was a stray bb, and it doesn't overkill people

    yeah, the "I only got hit by 1 BB, it musta been a fluke" puts me off Sniping with a spring sniper rifle every now and again.

    I'm curious - GBBR users, have you ever just emptied a mag the way people do with an AEG?

    Semi indoor and semi outdoors. Burst if its a range so i have more chance though every now and then running through MAZ like a maniac on full auto is great crack, it also works a lot of the times ;)
    Like everyone said why go full to put someone down in cover when a few bursts will do it

    Controlled bursts on auto for the main part, I've seen "suppression" fire thing where a couple of players can deny an attacking team an area in a game which causes a stalemate, and I don't agree with it, spraying for the sake of it takes all the fun out of the game.

    No. In truth because I've not actually skirmished my AGM m4 (on account of it needing much work to make it skirmishable and lack of mags). My M1 Garand isn't exactly a spray-and-pray sort of gun anyway (but it's sooooo satisfying to skirmish) :p

    But I know that if I were fielding a GBBR I would be more conservative with my rounds since a) I've got next to real-cap size, and b) I don't just have BB count to worry about but gas volume too.

    I've fought my way down corridors where the enemy outnumbers, out-guns me and is using full auto, I'd use full auto back (Or burst) and make my way up (suppress- go suppess - go e.t.c). If you get a stalemate its because the defending team is better than the attacking team regardless of what gear or whatever they're using.

    I like semi in slow stealthy games and full auto in action packed kill everyone in sight games. Full auto - Semi auto is a playing style choice not a game decider :pac:

    I agree it shows skills in cbq when you can overcome it.

    It's actually one of the best features of the officeblock, that in that environment with lack of lights and Line of sight for campers, that hosers don't usually prevail.

    I hate when a single shot dry fires at someone close, So i use Semi, I'll use single when i have to for certain game types or rules
