This in theory should be a simple job, but why does Toyota insist on making it hard:mad:?

If you look on the far left hand side, you can see the windscreen washer unit just sticking out and it seems to block out access to the dipped headlight. (I know the car in the photo is LHD but RHD models have the same layout.)

All the other lights at front of the car are quite accessible(bar the indicators), I should know as I've changed passenger side dipped lights in them, but I need to change a driver's side one and it seems to be blocked off by the windscreen washer bottle!

Does anyone who knows something about Toyotas know what can be done, or does this require a trip to a garage to sort out? I would have thought it was bad enough Renault decided to make headlights a 45 minute job at the main dealer without other companies doing it as well:mad:. Maybe there's something I've missed, or the headlight unit needs to come out etc, but the manual does not say anything about stuff needing to be removed .

    Thanks in advance.

Is it possible that the bottle can just be popped up out the way after you remove the cowling?

Old thread, but may help someone. It's reasonably easy once you've done it a few times.
    • Take over the black covers
    • Pop off the cover for the lights
    • Pull off the connector off the bulb
    • Remove retaining clip from bulb

After that it's easy. Skinned myself badly the first time. :)

Once the covers are out, it is quite straightforward, the problem is getting out the covers - they are an absolute pain in the behind to take out on the drivers side, and even worse to put back in. They have a hinge type mecanism so the side of the cover that is closet to the wing has to go in first because the 'hinge' is there. I don't know why they covers couldn't just clip in on both sides - that would have been much easier to do.

Having said that the passenger side cover is much more accessible and therefore is much easier to remove.

That explains it. I never put the covers back in. I put in HID's afterwards, and never bothered.
