Can anyone tell me what zones the following stops are in?
    Charlmont
    Dundrum
    Sandyford

    This map is not clear.

They sit on the boundary between zones

The fare is about the number of zones you travel through not the specific zone you are in.

Charlemont - Green is charged as one zone
Charlemont - Dundrum is charged as one zone

Harcourt Street - Balally is three, central, green 2 and green 3

But if you travel to Charlmont to Sandyford would that be 2 or 3 zones?
You think they would make it a bit clearer, rather than have a few stops which apparently arent in a zone (from looking at the map)

The three stops are each in two zones.

Charlemont is in zone 1 coming from/going to town and zone 2 going to/from Sandyford.
Dundrum is in zone 2 coming to/from town, or zone 3 going to/from Sandyford.
Sandyford is in zone 3 coming to/from town, or zone 4 going to/from Sandyford.

That representation is fairly standard on zonal maps. Look at the London Underground map here.

Two zones, green 2 and green 3

A station is always assigned to a zone boundary to ensure the journey between two adjacent stops is always a single zone fare

Ah right that was confusing me, as a journey from Harcourt to Charlemont was the same as Charlemont to Ranelagh even though one of the journeys should cross over 2 zones.

Sandyford to Dundrum or any stop up to Dundrum is one zone and the same goes for the others, any stop from Dundrum up to Charlemont is two zones and Harcourt or The Green is three.

You can also use the Luas fare calculator to work out your journey cost...

Another confusing problem: the English language maps on the red line are backwards.
