VEC Maternity Cover - no sick or snow days?

    Hi,

Just wonder if anyone could confirm what I assume is the correct situation. I am on a part time non-casual contract with VEC for a maternity cover. I have been told that I cannot claim either sick leave or for the two days when the VEC closed the doors. In a way I was expecting as it is deemed a part time contract (even though I am covering a full 22 hours plus form tutor duties etc.) but just wanted to double check this is how others in that scenario are treated?

    Cheers,
    c

Depends on the mood of the CEO of the VEC!!

One ceo paid all the part-timers for time missed for snow one year but when he retired the new ceo would not pay for classes lost due to snow. I can make no sense of that but I would think that this time there will be no snow pay-( Sorry but only an opinion)

It'd be no harm to chance your arm and claim for the hours anyway!

Been told specifically by my vice I can't. I might ring payroll in the morning. I am more surprised by the sick leave, the Asti site does indicate that non-casual part time are entitled to sick leave.

Let's hope the union help you out so! I used mine before and got my CID when they said they wouldn't give them. Worth a try!
