Maternity benefit & FIS

    Hi all,

The missus is currently 8 months pregnant and we're going through the motions of applying for maternity benefit.

We've learnt that women on maternity benefit are also entitled to claim FIS. Does anybody know how this is calculated? When you take the normal calculation steps we're about €150 over the threshhold on our normal salaries (she works part time but is relatively well paid). If my income and maternity benefit are added we're still about €40 over the mark. When they assess us, will they leave out the maternity benefit and base it just on my income, or is it based on her maternity benefit alone?

Can't find any info on the various sites, and any info will be appreciated.

    Cheers!

Are you calculating your assessible earnings correctly?

Your assessible earnings are your gross pay after tax, employee PRSI, Health Contribution, income levy and superannuation.

The FIS payment is then calculated as 60% of the difference between combined income, and the cut off point for your family size.

If you apply when your partner has started maternity.FIS will take your net pay + maternity benefit as earnings.FIS is calculated from the date of application.
