hey guys, Im buying new tv and have the ones im looking at in other posts but its been about 3 years since i bought the last, the last one was a samsung 40 inch that still going strong and i remember we spend some redicuouls money on it around 2700 just because it had 100 hz and 1080p which at the time was supposed to be the biz,

The tv still works but moved from home so looking for a decent one.

I play alot of ps3 games on 1080p and i never turn on game mode on the samsung and never really had the 100hz turned on the tv up untill a while ago as i found it made it look a bit weird,

with the new tv im going for a budget of around 600 and it seems you can get a cool tv 46 inch lcd or 50 inch plasma for that price but for the lcd its a 50hz option.

Also what are the new plasmas like? I ruled them out about 3 years ago, Im wondering if anything has changed and are they good compared to lcds and leds?

    Cheers

The faster the frequency the clearer the picture for sports etc..however early models of 100Mhz was shít and led to a blurry picture.
However it seems to have picked up in recent times. The 3D tvs are all 120mhz or 200mhz so the tech has improved dramatically.
If you don't plan on watching sports as such the 50/60mhz ones are perfect for gaming, no point in wasting cash on something you're not going to use.
As for plasma's in my view they look miles clearer than LCD,,but wait for someone on here with a bit more knowledge of them.

I would have thought the refresh rate on lcds would be important for gaming as well as sport no?

A lot of newer games don't support 50Hz (Fallout: New Vegas being one)
60Hz is the standard for all new games

ah k, But just to get my head clear, isnt all the sport broadcast in 50hz then and if you turn on 100hz for example on my samsung lcd with motion plus it just speeds it up?

I believe most, if not all, channels broadcast at 50 Hz. In that case a 100 HZ screen shouldn't give much if any improvement. Does anyone know any channels that are broadcast at > 50 Hz?

Not sure about game consoles or blueray players etc., maybe they can produce screen refresh rates of upto 100 HZ. In that case it would be worthwile.

if the source is at 50 hz and your screen refreshes at 100 hz there shouldn't be any improvement. basically you're getting 50 frames a second from the source so there's no need for the target (your tv) to refresh 100 times a second
