I have seen posters on here recommend TZ UK as a good site for watches, saw one that i was interested it, but it seems that i am unable to register.

Any one know the reason for this?

Yes, they are pretty snooty about new members, and try and make it hard to join to make sure only the dedicated can sign up.

There are some areas of the site you cannot view until you have 25 posts, and you can't sell a watch until you have at least 50 posts. Those who attempt to "speed-post" may be banned. It all sounds pretty draconian, but in reality most members seem fine.

I tried to join a few times over the space of a few weeks, and only then was registration "open" for new members.

Just keep on trying I suppose.

I just re-read my own post and it looks like an advertising post, I just want to clarify I have no connection to the site.

http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/index.php is another good one if you're keen on military spec/issued watches.

Keep at it with the registration. I think you might get a mail a while down the line if you applied. I think the idea is to keep spammers at bay.
