Noticed during the week that is was mainly old folk doing this.I went out today and did my drive and outside my gate.Only two others on the road seemed to give it a go?.About 100 houses on my road.
Whats your atitude to clearing snow,a waste of time(it will melt eventually) or a public duty?.

Snow isn't all that slippery. When you shovel it, the stuff left behind will refreeze as hard ice. That's an even bigger hazard for walking on

Apparently Dublin Co. Council don't mind if you want to do it but you are liable if someone falls afterwards...only seems to be people overly reliant on their cars who are doing it round my way.

It's far from your public duty, that's for sure.

well the snow outside my house has been defrosting and freezing again, and was like glass... i broke it up and salted it, the salted parts havent frozen again since i did it two nights ago... Its going to be on the ground for a while most likely..

If a couple of political parties wanted to gain a few points they could have candidates out clearing drives for old people..

You're much better off leaving compacted snow on the pavement, especially when there's freezing fog.

I love walking in the snow and being around so I wouldn't be shoveling it away, I always thought the ground would freeze and become icy if the snow was push away, I think it would be more dangerous.

We're the 2nd last house from the bottom of the road. So no ones gonna be walking down this far. Snow can stay there till it melts-nearly killed myself yesterday trying to take the snow off the cars there was that much of it

I cleared from my front door to my gate. I tried to clear outside the gate but it's gotten so compacted that it's frozen to the path and is impossible to get a shovel under.

It is one of those unsettling kinks of suburban life, the need to maintain a lawn, a hedge, a clear path in front of your house. Anything to avoid the matter of how dreary and pointless your comfortable compromise of a life is.

I suppose a lot of people have been stuck indoors and probably doing it out of boredom. Sick listening to their other half moaning about snow and seeing to be doing something.

We've been clearing snow and ice for the last 2 or 3 days. Instead of leaving the stuff behind to re-freeze, I just put a load of household salt on it. Got up this morning and wasn't icey and no frost on it.

Just wish everyone would do it. There are 5 houses in our row, and we are the only ones to remove anything. Its so much easier for pedestrians to walk on. Just a case of sit and moaning about it, but fupped if I am going to do anything about it.

Based on the past week, I wish people wouldn't clear the paths - or worse dump the snow in big piles in public areas. I need to use a walking stick (no, I'm not an oul one, just disabled) and found the cleared sections much more trecherous to walk on. The snowy bits were grand - was able to move faster than some of my more pathetic mates .

So please - stop clearing paths!! If you want to help, try throwing down some salt or grip.

Here you have to clear a path to your door otherwise the postie won't deliver your mail. The city then clears the foothpaths and spreads grit and salt depending on how icy/snowy it is.

This is the worst-people clearing their drives and leaving huge piles on either side of their house so you nearly fall on your face trying to get around it or climb over it!!
