    I have one of these cameras and like it a lot.

    However I do not have the manual (bought 2nd hand).

    Does anyone know how to disable the flash to take genuine night shots without the camera thinking a flash is needed?

    I had one of those a few years back. On the 4-way key pad you'll see an icon that looks like a lightening bolt, click that and it should allow you cycle through the flash modes. When you see an icon on screen that looks like there's a line through the lightening bolt, that's your flash off ;)
