You can now select the language you want by pressing the I button and scrolling through which one you want.

Good to hear. That's something I'd been suggesting since they launched the other channels.

    Using the Cisco HD box.

As regards BBC Interactive this has been explained before.

Freeview Freesat Virgin and Sky all use different software and BBC must create the software for their services on each of these platforms.

UPC has yet another software and BBC is not going to develop for this as it is an Irish platform and BBC is funded by the British Government.

Edit here is a typical BBC weather map.pmweather.JPG

    Cannot get HD service,

Who developed the software for interactivity on Euronews?

The BBC are cutting back on their interactive platforms after the Olympics, under a ruling by the BBC Trust to cut costs. So quite shortly you won't be missing out on quite as much :P

There are proposals at the moment to extend the range of OpenTV services on UPC in the new year though.

I will still be missing a lot !

Open TV - do you mean the likes of DCTV or the garbage channels such as 'angels TV ' ?

No, it's middleware - it handles interactive applications on the set top box. Sky happen to also use it for their platform.

It gets even more complicated, since there are actually three sets of UPC STBs with different software - STBs introduced by UPC, and those still in use from the NTL and Chorus days. The NTL boxes were originally running the Liberate middleware - whether this is still the case or whether it was quietly switched to OpenTV somewhere along the way I'm not sure, although as the EPG is still the same basic software (even now that it is UPC branded) I am rather suspicous that it is still Liberate software running on the NTL STBs.

Chorus Sagem boxes run on OpenTV though, although I don't think anyone has ever tried to run a red button service on one of these.

The requirement to be able to access the multilingual services accross three different platforms is probably the reason the multi-EPG listing for Euronews was adopted in the first place.
