The band north of Mullingar is snow. South of it is a sleety mess. Won't stay like that though as cold air is now well established again in the Northern half of the country and is pushing south.

Think in Dublin we won't see anything spectacular but id say we will get a few flakes.

Bitter day here in Waterford with freezing fog this morning that fell and left a snow like covering. Max temp today was -0.8c at 2pm. Now its -2.4c and falling fast. Will be interesting to see if we get anything from that band crossing the country now.

    More Detail @ www.waterfordcityweather.com

According to met eireann we will but looking at their radar it's a big no!

i can see this is a very slow moving system. what wind speeds are people getting where there is precipitation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭deaglan169

still snowing in monaghan a good 4 inches on top of the old snow and at least an inch fallen today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,243 ✭✭✭lucernarian

The wind is perfectly calm here, and with an oncoming cold front it's unusual. It shows the sheer relutcance of the front to move anywhere! It's also -4 here currently.

Grand pair o' tits. (well only one, the rest are sparrows) :pac:

As for wind? Judging simply by the chimney smoke from the next street, I'd say it's not even 1 on the beaufort...smoke was going straight up, snow is coming straight down.

Just looking at the met eireann rainfall radar, has it started to regroup and intensify over the midlands?
It looks like it will hit Dublin in the next few hours. A few snow flurries would be ok, hail or graupel and the roads would be back to square one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭Gremlin

I think this might miss alot of Ireland, might hit the coast areas of Dublin and Wicklow but dont expect it to get 10 miles in from the coast!

I would disagree. Look at the way the precip is pulsing from ne/sw along the frontal line. I think Dublin is going to be right in the firing line later this evening.

Yes I think in the next few hours. Don't think it will stay as snow all night because the wind allbeit light will be going onshore but might get a few cm's out of it.

from the Radar it would seem that this is significant precipitation north of a line from Dublin to Sligo and not much below that. The only issue is what will happen when it reaches the Dublin area.

it'll be all over the six-one news :p
