Hi, I'm a 5'7 female looking to get my first road bike. Got measured and told 52cm would be the right frame size for me.

Not looking for anything too fancy - needs to be able to come to work with me!

    What is your budget ?

To be honest, it kind of depends on what's available - I've signed up to do a 1000k cycle for charity next September, so I'm going to be putting a lot of hours in between now and then!

I've never had a road bike before though, so I'm considering buying something basic enough to start training on now, and then upgrading at a later date, when I have a better idea of what I want and what represents good value.

But equally, if the right bike was around, I could just buy that from the off.

So apologies for the very long-winded answer, but ultimately probably anything from €200 to €750.

Thanks for thinking of me - but I think you mention in one of your posts that you're 6ft though - if so I imagine the bike would probably be a bit too much of a stretch for me, I'm only 5'7.

52cm seattube (although probably a little too big for you by my reckoning) and carbon..

It's groupset is compag whose shifters are generally better suited to riders with small hands so might be something to considering with you being a female and all ;)

Hi Lemag and Gerry thanks for your responses. I've decided I'm not ready to spend so much on a bike right now - have realised just how much kit I'm going to need too for cycling in this weather - so I'm going to go with something cheap (c. €200) and servicable now and hopefully upgrade at a later date.

Thanks so much for your time,

    Aisling

Sounds sensible enough but I'd suggest that you up your budget slightly and look for a well looked after secondhand bike. Adverts.ie, gumtree, donedeal, buy & sell, etc. and search online for reviews of the bikes that take your interest. A good site for this is www.bikeradar.com. Try to enlist the help of a knowledgeable friend where possible for the inspection of the bikes' condition. If you can find anything for c. €200 new it'll only end up causing you more heartache than it's worth.
