Do they only grit behind them? If so that's probably a design flow that needs to be looked at - shouldn't be too hard to spring some at the front too?

It is part of their job, but lots of people didn't go to their job because of dangerous conditions.
Some of these guys went above and beyond, working long and unsociable hours. Credit where credit is due, they literally risked their lives to keep the roads open FFS.

Not sure how much difference that'd make unless it's some new 'Instant melt' grit.

I'd reckon a quiet word in the drivers ear explaining to him that the grit comes out the back and will have zero benefit for him might help. As the grit truck has to travel on the most dangerous surface it would make sense to fit studded tyres to the truck for the duration of the freeze.

Grit is rock salt, isn't it? If they spray it ahead of them, it *should* come effective when the trucks wheels rolls over it, crushing it and mixing it with water and making it, brine? I would say it would be somewhat effective, which would be better than nothing I would imagine!

It's their job, full stop. They get paid to do that.

It's not unsociable hours, thats the hours they need to do it and are employed to do so.

I risked my life driving to work all week and not missing a day because they didn't grit the roads around where I live for the first couple of days... Some roads are still not gritted here.
