First off sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum.

    Hi,
I'm trying to wrap my head around the differences between these two movements yet I just can't seem to grasp it. I am just wondering can someone clearly explain the differences to me and if possible could you give me some film examples as well on both of them.

You will be helping me a great deal.
    Thanks.

My understanding is that they are much the same - the main difference being where the movements originated - one in France, the other in Canada/USA.

I did read once that Direct Cinema has a tendency to leave the subjects more alone - whereas Cinema Verite is a little more intrusive - i.e. more of the directors touch on the film. Direct Cinema was obsessed with observing things without the subject's knowledge of the camera.
