TEFL in Vietnam

Being unemplyed for quite a while now, Im ready to leave Ireland. I have a friend in Vietnam and Im going to go live there in a few months. Im an urban planner by trade but have taught Irish (Im a native speaker) in the Gaeltacht for enough years to be comfortable in front of a class. I'd like to broaden my options by perhaps doing a TEFL course. Has anyone got any experience with teaching English in Vietnam? I am not sure whether to do a TEFL course here or do one when I get there. I think I would prefer to have it in the bag before I go but Im willing to listen to any advice. Is it as simple as getting my TEFL here and getting on a plane?

I have read all the posts about TEFL on boards.ie and have seen plenty of contradictory information. what I'm really looking for is advice from someone who has some real experience with TEFL in Vietnam.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Tom

    These links might prove useful:

Sounds like if you have a good TEFL course with 4 weeks of training minimum etc. then you have a good chance of getting a job when you get there. Best of luck.

Ive booked a 100hours online TEFL course with i-to-i which im planning to complete in the next 5-6 weeks. I decided against the 120hours course - the 20 extra hours having to do with classroom experience didnt seem worth the extra cost - as ive a good bit of teaching experience already.

BUT... ive been trolling the web and am now worried that this may go against me. i will have my teaching experience on my CV, along with references from a primary school prinicipal and the owner of an Irish language summer school where i worked.

    opinions?
