right lads, i sent away the form to county hall to be put on the electorate. bout 2weeks later i got this letter stating something about a claim?

    it says.:
    notice re claim 473

the claim detailed below will be considered by me at the time and place indicated below. any person interested may be heard or represented when the claim is being considered, or may furnish observations on the claim to me in writing.

    details of claim:
a claim has been lodged with me to have your name added to the register of electors at the address shown here on.

my gf did the same thing as i did and all she got in the post was a ballot card.

    any ideas? serious answers please

They found out you're related to the kaiser and don't want a diplomatic incident.

Are they expecting you to personally show up ?

Are you an non-Irish citizen/Looking for a postal vote/a member of the police/armed forces or something else out of the ordinary ?

They can vote in Council and European elections just like an Irish person living in Germany can.

Cant really explain it so. Maybe there is some question mark they have about your identity or somesuch ? Could be interesting to see what they say and how you get on.

Galway seems to have a similar set up. I can't understand why the county council is based in a city is has no jurisdiction over.

That'd be pretty mad. Wonder will they have that info readily, methinks I'll get a bunch of people saying 'errr I dunno, have ya? Well no then, shure how could ya if ya didn't ya know?!, etc.
Doubtful I'll get a competent answer.

Probably hide behind privacy laws or something.
I know for a fact that the votes are destroyed once the count is done and signed off on, but they really should hold onto the reg sheets that they mark people off on as they come in and leave.

Hang on, how could your gf get a ballot card? You only get that when the election is called!

I read someplace that candates do get to see them whether this amounts to letting them have a peek or giving them an actual copy Im not sure.

Dont think theyd destroy them immediately after an election. Theyd have to hold onto them for at least a couple of months as they would be deemed evidence if anyone were to be charged with personation ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,879 ✭✭✭Coriolanus

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Seems kind of wrong that anyone can put your name and address on the register, do they not need other details? PPS?

Is the register where they take names for jury duty?
