    +1

It actually came on Yesterday. At the moment it seems to be all up-scaled SD but I'm sure some actually HD material will come along soon. Since it's launch Saorview is progressing alot faster than many thought it would.

No it's only available on Saorview at the moment and it will be on Saorsat when that service is launched later this year.

    MAy/June 2011

A Sky box will never work. A Humax HD sat box may work.

Sky may eventually have RTE2 in HD, but Sky has to pay for carriage and simulcast and you need a subscription. Sky is unlikely to have extra Saorview/Saorsat channels. (Probably due to not paying carriage, rather than RTE not providing).

Sky /Freesat will not have FTA RTE1, RTE2, TG4 or TV3. Only on a subscription.

A Sky HD box will work whenever RTE decide to let Sky have the HD version of RTE 2.

RTE have decided to only allow HD on Saorview and Saorsat for an unspecified period of time to encourage viewers to switch to these platforms.

Sky box may have RTE2 HD on Subscription eventually, but it won't work with Saorsat.

At the minute we have had 2 months of Saorview and no actual HD content yet.

When Sky let UPC provide Sky HD channels on their service then RTÉ should think about letting RTÉ 2 HD begin on the Sky platform.

Sky might not want it though. Extra expense and no extra revenue.

It adds to the HD channels on offer though, and maybe more subscribers to the HD mix at €15 a pop!

Or when Sky actually pay the VAT they charge on Irish customers accounts to the Irish exchequer and not the UK's.

Why would RTÉ care about the HD channels provided by UPC?

Trying to look at the bigger picture, as people here advocate that the Sky platform show carry RTÉ HD. If anything RTÉ Two HD should be broadcasts on UPC and maybe Sky, as Sky continue to hold off on Sky HD on UPC.
