2&3 are nice shots. Empire state one is a bit cliche, but it's been around for quite some time it's hard to get a unique shot. Good capture though. I like the colours in no. 3.

For 1, try flipping it. The apple logo is quite well known and it being backwards it stands out a little, for me anyway. Otherwise a nice shot.

4 looks a little snap-shot like, nothing really standing out to me. At a first glance it seemed crooked, but after looking closely it seems straight, not sure why I had that initial impression. Maybe try cropping with perspective on in photoshop an try to make it a 2 point perspective, make those vertical lines truly vertical, it does wonders for architectural photography.

Love the vibrancy of the third shot. The empire state one, hmmm, not sure. There's something about the angle, and I'd prefer a little room above the spire so it didn't feel so cramped. Nice exposure though.

    Cheers for the replies.

    I flipped the 1st one

2nd one is probably a bit cliche but hey its not everyday you get to take a photo of the Empire State building so I was mainly hoping for sharpness.
I put together a pano as well but im pee'd that the sides aren't sharp

4th one, this was my first attempt at this kind of shot. I had no tripod so was just hoping for a sharp-ish background with movement in the foreground, maybe this one is better...

I'd suggest going a lot easier on the post-processing here. The sky looks weird and noisey (might just be ISO...but you had to have had a tripod so why is the ISO so high?) and there's a dark halo around the ESB (heh), and an odd blueish halo around that.

    I quite like stars.

EDIT: Yeah, I check the exif. Your exposure was 2.5 seconds so definitely a tripod or wall balance job. The ISO is 500...why not put it to 100 and go for another couple of seconds on the exposure?

Yup, if it's on a tripod, which it obviously was, or at least stabilised and you used the timer? either way, ISO should be kept to a minimum for long exposure, or you're battling with all kinds of leaks in light.

If I was taking this shot, on a tripod, I'd go 10 seconds plus, with ISO at a min, and aperture narrowed to something like f/18 - f/22. I see you had it at f/13. Fine for dark landscapes but for night time long exposures you really do need it very narrow to contain light spillage.

I see the halo your talking about. I actually didn't do very much pp on it, just a small bit in levels so im not sure why the halo is there. The sky was pretty much that color. Didn't mean the ISO to be high, was meant to be 400. Reason I didn't go to 200 was because it was very windy on the top of the Rockefeller center and I didn't want to go much slower than 2.5 secs as I only had a gorrillapod with me.

2.5 secs @ 100 ISO should have been fine? You could have tried widening the aperture I guess. Night shooting is tough, trial and error usually dictates how we get results.

Im thinking it would of been too dark and would of needed a longer shutter time? Or as you said a wider aperture but I was trying to keep this narrow to maintain DOF? But I know what ya mean about the trial and error, I must of taken 30 shots (excluding ones I deleted straight away) of the ESB and what u see is the best of them. I couldn't take anymore or my fingers were going to fall off!!!!

You don't have a remote shutter release? Or just use the timer setting.

Ye I was using a remote shutter release. Just looked at the unprocessed pic from the camera and the halo is there, weird!

You don't really need to worry about DOF when you're shooting buildings from a mile away. You don't want to push the aperture all the way open for other reasons though, mostly because most lenses will get a little soft and/or distorted wide open.
