Hi, I'm looking for a starter painting kit for a christmas present for my mother.
She has never painted before but has occasionally mentioned that she would like to get into it.
She is very creative. Dress making, baking etc, so I think she would at least enjoy it.
I've seen a few kits in a local art shop but don't know what I should be getting to be honest.
    Acrylic, water, oil?
    Easel, pads, paper, canvas?
I would also like to get a book or dvd to get her started.

    All advice greatly appreciated.

Personally, if she is starting, I'd go with acrylics or water colours deoending on what you think she might paint.
I started with acrylics, because I know I didn't want to do those "washed out" land scapes.

Other than that, don't go with canvas yet, start with a booklet of high quality paper, to get used to it, and a pack of pads. The pads are quite good and easily framed (I have one on a wall in the parents house)

Another good thing might be one of those small boxes to hold everything that double as a small easal.

i think I got mine between easons and an art and hobby shop
