"under-performing" toilet.

    Hi,
I need help with an "under-performing" toilet. The flushing action has become very weak. The lever needs to be pumped to release enough flow to adequately flush the toilet.

I checked the basin, the water is at the required level but when I flush, water is released into the basin and the flush only lasts 2 seconds.

I looked at a few links on the internet about clearing holes under the rim but i cant seem to locate these in order to clean?

Its not great telling guests to double flush when finished, it brings a bad reaction from guests lol.
    Any ideas.

Also, there’s a hissing sound coming from the pump/basin when i continually flush.
    Cheers

Possible tear in the syphon. If your familiar with this, I would just get a plumber.

A plumber! In this recession times, would a d.i.y job be possible?

Of course a diy job is possible. The siphon is easily available from any plumbers merchants and cheap.

You will need to flust the toilet and get as much water out as possible. Tie up the ball valve or otherwise turn off the water. You will probably have to unscrew the ball from the end of the ball valve.

You will then need to disconnect the handle cable from the siphon and remove it by undoing the large nut at the bottom.

Make sure you use a new seal when reinstalling.

The flapper valve in the above video is the diaphragm. Its the clear plastic sheet behind the black star shape in the video... If you can take the old one out then a plumbers suppliers will give you the right size. Sometimes these just bend so if you take the old one out and flip it over if its not torn then it should work ok for another few years...

Sometimes these are easy to replace...Sometimes you need to buy new fittings.

This can be when trouble starts.

However if you are fairly confident and have to buy new fitting etc then you should be fine..
