had one, bought it new in 2006 - love love loved it - loved the driving height; DIDN'T love the cost of filling and taxing it plus the boot in the 3 door was non-existent...........but if money is no object and you don't have loads to transport, I'd lash on (better colours than that out there though!)

yeah dont think much of the colour myself tbh. is it heavy on diesel my wife drives 150-200 kms a week

mine was petrol and I got about 30mpg - drove Cork / Dublin / Cork one weekend; filled her from quarter to brim TWICE and she was nearly empty when I got back to Cork - the diesel might be better though..........

bought one a few years back, dangerous to drive on wet or slippy roads, rear wheel drive and short wheel base combined with high centre of gravity, spun mine on the big bend near dungarvan , went backwards across the road hit the ditch and flipped right over on to its wheels again, rite off, avoid like the plauge

also, on long journeys it wrecks your back..........only realised it when I moved into the replacement car.........

the OP is asking about the LWB version which is full time four wheel drive

I had a test drive in one about a year ago, I quite liked it, the interior was comfortable enough and it was spacious. Had all the off-road gadgets you would ever need, locking diff, low range gears etc. Fitted with a decent set of tyres and it will see you through just about any snowy conditions. Claimed 37mpgs too which is pretty good.

This engine is made by Renault AFAIK and i have heard of lots of problems. Neighbour had one from new and never got it out of the Dealers for long. He sold it when warranty was up. Otherwise should be bulletproof. The older model with the Peugeot engine was a tough little jeep. The Vitaras are more agricultural and jeeplike than others of similar size like freelander rav 4 etc. If you dont need a very capable 4X4 something softer would be easier to live with on the road.

Renault diesel lump used in Vitara from 2005 onwards, before that it was the Mazda derived 2.0L diesel, more reliable but a hell of a lot less refined.

They also have a PSA engine (2.0 HDI) is some of the early ones.

    We had one(GV) for a about 9 months(8 too many)....lots of hassles...would advise avoiding...

RAV4.....make sure you test drive on bad roads to see what the ride quality is like....some of these can be bouncy & uncomfy on the longer trips.....

Renault seem to be infecting a lot of other more reliable brands with their shoddy engines.

Its a shame, a DCI lump that is running well is a nice motor.
