On JSA - Want to register as Sole Trader

I am currently on JSA. I have a business idea that would require me to register as a sole trader. I cant afford to miss out on the JSA payments.

If I register as a sole trader can I continue to receive JSA payments up until/if the business starts to make money?

If in say two months the business is not going well and I have to finish trading then am I right in thinking that I cant go back on the JSA as it is not available for self employed people?

Its a poor system when it seems to put up obstacles to entrepreneurship.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Enquire at your local SW office about Back to Work Enterprise Allowance. Depending on how long you are on JA, you may be entitled. You get 100% of your existing JA entitlement in year 1 and 75% in year 2

This scheme will result in me losing any entitlement to rent supplement (this is a big drawback).

If the idea does not work which there is a pretty decent chance it won't be successful then as I was self employed I will lose my entitlement to JSA after the two year period (if I don't have a job at that time I wont be in the country but that could be an issue for someone else).

I have been told that the advertised funding scheme is very small and the majority of applicants are refused even if applying for €1,000 or less.

With all these drawbacks the enterprise scheme is a poor option for anybody who does not have any savings to fall back on.
