...ok so I know its gonna vary with the severity of the case, but Im just wondering if the price of braces has dropped in recent months or are we still talking the average E3,500 - E4,500? Im looking to get my four front top teeth straightened and thats it.

Im looking to get braces in the Clare/Limerick region, and the ortho Ive been recommended is E100 for a consultation visit alone, Im presuming this fee is pretty standard? But is it worth my while to shop around?

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

    Hi there

the prices you mention are fairly standard. I know your main concern is the 4 front teeth but it is not just a matter of straightening 4 teeth because it is usually not possible to treat the front teeth in isolation from the rest of the mouth.

Go and get an opinion form an orthodontist and take it from there. There are a few specialists in your area so check them out. You wont regret getting it done properly

Hi, I am 29 and got braces on 2 months ago in Dublin. I can only give you my cost experience. I am paying €5000 in total for ceramics (i.e. the traditional braces but clear). I was quoted €4500 for the traditional metal ones. I paid €75 for the initial consultation and I was in with the ortho for an hour and got x rays included etc. I am paying the fee in installments, I had to pay € 1,000 upfront and then am paying €200 a month for 20 months. That fee covers all of my appointments (every 6 weeks), one years after care and my retainer. Couple of things to remember in addition cost wise, I had to get a scale and polish as well as 2 extractions which I had to pay separately. You don't get tax relief on ordinary dental expenses but you do get 20% tax back on orthodontic treatment (assuming that hasn't changed in todays budget!). I agree with Daydreamer, it isn't always as easy as just straightening a few teeth, they think about your jaw alignment and your bite. I have uppers and lowers even though my bottom teeth are straight. So my biggest recommendations are to shop around but make sure that you get an orthodontist who goes through everything with you, answers your questions and that you have some testimonials for if possible. I visited a couple of orthos and I felt reassured after seeing my current one as I was in with him for an hour. I still have a lot way to go with these braces but I can already see some change in my teeth and I already absolutely consider it the best thing I ever did for my appearance. :D

Apologies for the long rambling email, I just know how you feel at the moment!! If you need anymore info, PM me.

Hi OP I'm not sure of the cost but I just wanted to say after suffering through years of them myself, it's more than worth the cost to have lovely teeth - people do notice and comment favourably on them!

    good luck

and with that, Kakuzhinas brief and unpleasant stay on the dental issues forum came to an abrupt end.

I realy needed braces 10 years ago, now I really really need them! I have 2 very twisted teeth and I know fixing them would involve nearly every tooth on the top half of my mouth.

I would have major problems getting time off for dental appointments in this country let alone another country. But the cost is the main thing, just not possible, even with a credit union loan.

Every time I visit the dentist she comments on how they will have to be sorted or removed but can't recommend anything more than shopping around.

Living way too far away even to consider the north.

Anyone have any experience with the 6 month braces being advertised, I presume they are for very slight re-alignments.
