Just to continue the story of my long running Fiesta . it die'd on Dorset st. at rush hour , ( thanks fellow drivers, It really did help you beebing your horn and shouting out the window at me , while I pushed it to side of road)
got it towed to Ford main dealer near there who infromed me it would be 2600 minimum to repair , 1 part was 1100 and another was 700 and then labour and vat on top , I said no and they wanted 97 for looking at it .
Had it towed to my friends in castlblaney who took the part out cleaned it and put it back , working fine , total price 600 ........
Congratulations to Trunk road motors , couldn't have been more helpful ... also the tow truck guys , well done
    As for ford never again....

    What was wrong with it?

It's possible that you may just have a temporary solution...

I always think towing your dead car to a main dealer is a really bad idea, it's like presenting a juicy turkey to a starving person and asking him to just have a nibble.

Still, you can't compare main dealers prices to your mates prices.

What was the part that had failed?

The part that failed was the integrity of the main dealer.

You haven't told us what was wrong with it, what the dealer quoted for or what you paid €600 for

So the main dealer suggested €1800 worth of parts and suggested the labour would be €800. Your mate didn't supply any parts and just cleaned the existing part? And he charged you €600? Am I missing something here?

I am sure the OP will let us know.

I am fascinated to hear what part failed that Ford wanted €2600 to fix, that can cause breakdown, and that by simply 'cleaning' solves the problem. From previous posts it looks a 03 Fiesta automatic.

I guess inhibitor switch on the auto.

    Anyone else?

I'm guessing the €600 includes the towing fees - though I agree it still sounds seriously expensive if no parts were supplied.
