I've had the same male at the feeders for the past 4 years now. He's very distinctive and I can recognise his call after all that time.
The local farmer is part of REPS and doesn't allow shooting on his land which I reckon has contributed massively to the longevity of this bird.

Normally there are a handful of young hens too but this year there seems to be a good few young cocks and therefore 'big man' as I call him visits the feeders less often.

Most of the young birds scarper when they see me but 'big man' just struts away as fast as I approach.

This looks like a young bird - probably released during the summer by your local gun club. Most clubs release birds during the summer month and there will be a fair number of hens released amongst the males. Keep the feed coming and you stand a good chance of the bird staying arround. These birds can be pretty fragile and can be taken by foxes, mink or buzzards so it needs all the friends it can get !

Nice young hen, very healthy looking as well. Could be a release or a wild one, impossible to say which. Keep her fed and she might have a clutch comes spring and summer.
