Making a wedding band from old jewellery

    Hi guys,
Would be very grateful if anyone can help with this query.
I recently had my engagement ring made using the diamond from my mams engagement ring. I am now left with a gold band which myself and my fiance would like to use to make his wedding band, along with some white gold. I am not sure what the best way to go about this is, but this is being done for sentimental reasons, and one shop that we visited sort of put a dampner on things by suggesting it was a bit of a waste of time. Should we melt the gold down, or maybe just have it stretched and add the white gold around it? My fiance would like the yellow gold in the middle, with a band of white gold either side of it, all equal sizes, if you get me?!
Can anyone help or recommend how to do this, or recommend somewhere to get it done??
Also, we would need an 18ct white gold band for me with diamonds on it if anyone can recommend somewhere for this also. I have priced some wedding bands for myself, but am tempted to go North as sterling prices are alot more reasonable!
    Thanks again!

I go to these guys in Dublin to polish my rings and as far as I know they redesign jewellery.

I also have my father`s wedding band, so we are getting it melted down and made into a wedding band for me (it`s too big to resize!) and the leftover gold will be used for my engagement ring, in Galway a place called Cara Diamonds in Briarhill, as it turns out my OH only has to buy the diamonds, it`ll take 6 weeks roughly but I`m in no rush. Also they aren`t charging for the wedding band workmanship cos we`re buying the diamonds with them!
Another thing i`d say is not to bother with anyone that`s gonna dismiss your sentiments-that`s what it all about!!!
