Where is accessible by car / bus / train?

Would love to get up into the snow and last year it was fantastic, however, I had to abandon my car...

Anyone know anywhere accessible, either by train / bus or normal (non 4 wheel drive) vehicle? I know two people who live near Laragh and, contrary to posts on other threads, they said not to go near the place but that Kilmacanogue might be doable and you can walk to the sugarloaf at least from there.

    Anyone any other ideas?

Laragh is definitely accessible as so far they have been doing a good job of clearing and gritting the Kilmacanogue/Roundwood/laragh Road. This may change though.

Kilmacanogue is certainly ok as its by way of the N11. The 145 Dublin bus will take you there.

Surprisingly the Wicklow Gap has also been treated and was driveable, so you could try Tonelagee?

Heres a link to the councils gritting plan...they have been pretty good so far.

I'v also heard that Lug is possible by way of the Glen of Imaal side. Glenmalure is impassable.

Now i'm not saying these routes are neccesarily "safe"! Just thats its possible to get there and back!!

AA says Roundwood - Laragh road very bad and wicklow and sally gap impassable :(

If anyone heads out it would be great if they could post up a brief description of the route?

The problem is that they say that all the time and you never know when to believe them or how up to date the information is.

For instance on Sunday, I drove across the Wicklow Gap and while on it I heard on the radio "that the Sally Gap and the Wicklow Gap are impassable" :D

The road was 100% grand with all the snow having been cleared and the road treated!!

Does anybody know what the road is like to Fentons pub from Donard? I'd like to try climbing Lug over the next while.

Was there Saturday. Stopped in Donard and the woman in the Post Office thought I might be risking it in a car, but managed to make it to a carpark near Ballinbarney Gap. Getting out of the car park later was tricky enough, then the hill down into Donard was like a skating rink. Crawled along.

Ballinteer is still accessible as of today (48A still running according to dublin bus) - very handy for tramping around the three rock and kilmashogue. With the snow on the hills, gaiters are a must.

The new luas green line extension could be used for access to the eastern section of the DMW.

The dart to Bray for walking on Bray head? Bray head is a lovely walk at any time of the year.

These are all good options lads keep them coming!

At mo I think Luas would be best, so what stops should I get off at for the Dublin Mountain Way? Going to look at their website to see...

Tallaght looks like a runner... but that end of the walk seems a bit boring...
