    sorry if this has been posted just need an urgent enough reply

    is it possible to obtain a visa for the states for the months june - sept without going through usit/go4less etc?

    have my own insurance and want to book the flights by myself

    No, as discussed here you must go through a sponsoring company.

    For a J1, someone has to sponsor it. For tourism, you can get a tourist visa from the US embassy allowing you to stay for a continuous period of up to 6 months.

    yup dude afraid not!! been looking into this my self!! and tbh im not gonna bother get the j1 anymore.. i only intended on going ever and working for 4 weeks and traveling foe 4-6... and tbh the money usit are looking for is absolutely crazy!! the woman in the UL office quoted me €1200ish today.... after i pressed her for the "real"price!!
