You will probably just need to go to the motortax office with a letter from a registered garage stating the work that has been done and get them to update the info and send out a new logbook

OP, what car are you converting and why are you converting it?

Unless you're planning to raid a scrapper for the bits and planning to keep the car for ever it would make more financial sence to sell the petrol and buy a diesel. Also, if it's a fairly modern car, have fun with the wiring...

Diesel lumps are much heavier, so you would probably need to look at changing the front suspension as well...

I just can not pay crazy petrol price
Try to run on used oil instead

I done this conversion before, its a huge amount of work but worked well. NCT was no problem at the time. Car was audi 90 2.3E, I put in 1.9TDI. Only thing I could'nt get to work again was rev counter.
Audi was easy enough to convert as all engine mounts etc just bolted into place, even holes in bulkhead were there for fuel filter. Bit of work involved with heater plug wiring.
One thing I learned from this was...If you want a diesel, just buy one, unless you can do all the work yourself and you have a nice high spec car that you want to keep. VW corrado is a popular TDI conversion

Right, here's a list off the top of my head. The specifics will depend on the model.
    • Engine
    • Engine Mounts
    • Crossmember (possibly)
    • Fuel pump and pipework
    • Fuel tank
    • Fuel lines
    • Servo Vacuum pump
    • Fuel Filter and mounts
    • Power steering pipes (pump may move position)
    • Accellerator cable
    • Pedal box (if you're unlucky)
    • Rad & associate pipework
    • Exhaust
    • Turbo/Intercooler & pipework (if fitting a turbo diesel)
    • Dash Clocks
    • ECU (even if the diesel doesn't have one, the petrol one will have to be removed)
    • Engine Loom
    • Donor car loom and immobilizer (if it's less than ten years old)
    • Gearbox
    • Drive shafts (possibly)
    • Rear Diff (if RWD)
    • Front shocks & springs (the diesel lump will probably be heavier than a petrol lump)

If you have to buy all these, it'll cost a pretty penny, even from a scrapyard.

Also, you want to run it on used oil? You'll leave a nasty smokescreen behind you for your fellow motorists...

You have to replace the dash for diesel rev counter and it will be fine

    Forget about it
For one reason you would have all sorts of problems with ABs/dsc where it no longer has communication with engine ecu
ie ABS lamp on >> no NCT

It would be vastly uneconomical to do that conversion. Just sell/trade your car against a diesel version or, as makes more sense of you can't afford the petrol, buy a smaller car!
