Renewing/Selling an Expired Taxi License

Wondering could you give me some help for a friend of mine who is looking to sell his taxi license. He sold his car 5 months ago and started to sell the license 3 months ago but it just wasnt selling. Now the license has expired and after a quick look at the taxi regulator website it looks like you cant sell an expired license.

To me this looks completely outrageous. It now looks like he must now buy a car less than 3 years old, tax it as a taxi, put it through an NCT and then pay the renewal fee to have it renewed (which will have to be paid by the new buyer also) just to sell it on?

I know its not even my license to sell, but this bullsht by a so called regulator actually makes me sick. How can they treat people like this?

My feelings aside, can anyone confirm that this is what needs to be done? Is there anyway around this? Thanks

You can sell a lapsed licence but it has to come with a car to be legally sold. What your friend should have done was to sell it at one lot but in all honesty, he should have checked it out. He needs to reregister it first, buy a car to stick under it, get it fitted with meter etc and tested by both NCT and SGS. And all in less than 2 months as the plate expires if it has been unregistered for 7 months so his plates as good as gone unless he acts literally first thing in the morning. I'd urge him to ring the Regulators office ASAP; in fairness to the staff there they are helpful on the phone even if their remit is arseways.

And yes, you are right in saying that it's a big mess.

I think you'll find that he can restore the license at any time up to 5 years from the day it lapsed
