    Hi,

Anyone got any recommendations for new membership in Dublin. I'm based in South Dublin so north wicklow is also close by. In terms of price, not more than 1,500. I'm not fairly new to golf, no handicap yet. I'm a little surprised that some courses still have joining fees. Not sure if this is something that can be negotiated.

    Thanks

there's an old thread on this i think
what level do you play to?
best option imo is Druids Heath for €1500,course is tough though, very long

South county might be a good shout also,it's aroud a grand i think

South County is €1600 plus €39 for GUI accreditation and insurance plus another €300 bar levy. Their membership year is from 1st Jan to 1st Jan. I played there two Sunday's ago on the views of joining. Course was in great condition for a wet November, only 12 holes in play on the Sun as they take the par 3 out on a Sun to protect the course. Good atmosphere and practice facilities in the club also by the looks of things.

However I'm going to join Tulfarris as I think it yields better value and is a tougher more challenging course than South County. Tulfarris is €1000 plus €53 I think for GUI accreditation and insurance plus another €100 bar levy. Their membership year is from 1st Mar to 1st Mar however if you join now you've full use of the club and facilities from 1st Nov 2010 to 1st Mar 2012. I was to join Sun but they called me Sat saying that the course was closed on Sat and Sun due to the snow and frost.

Dunmurry Springs is €995 for the year (including GUI & Golfsure). There is no bar levy. Year runs from Jan 2011 to Jan 2012. Anyone joining now can play from now until Jan 2012.

It is a tough but fair course that really makes you play golf. Our members would say it can be a bit challenging at first but if you are serious about your golf this course will make you a better golfer.

What part of South Dublin are you in? Remeber that Tulfarris is a further 25mins down the road than South County so slipping out for a few holes of a summers evening will take a little more planning. Think about the extra fuel and wear and tear as it all adds up. What might look like a good financial desision now may prove to be much of a muchness at the end with a lot more time and travel involved. Just my tuppence worth on it.

    TheGEN.

What's the story on the joining fee for South County? It is currently on the website as 3,250 in addition to the yearly dues.

At one stage it said they were taking 50 new members without having to pay a joining fee and there was a countdown. But there is no mention of that now.

Fair point, I'm based just off Cork St in Dublin city centre so any course that doesn't cost the earth is at least 30 mins away. I went to Grange Castle a couple of times during the summer of an evening after work and with traffic it was 45mins away.

There's no joining fee in South County, think they still leave that joining fee up as 3,250 to make you think you're getting a great deal to join up before it returns. They've quite alot of members though, think I remember counting something like 650 on the handicap sheet posted in the clubhouse.

Im also just off Cork St at it happens and would be tempted by a good offer to join somewhere accessible.

But no way in hell Im paying a large joining fee, not in this day and age. Those days are gone for all but the very elite clubs IMHO

Also living off Cork Street lads. I'm a member of Rathcore (Outside Enfield). On a usual morning you're on N4 at Kilmainham in less than 10mins and it's a genuine 30 - 35mins from that point. €857 subs. There's plenty of threads about the high standard of the course but don't rule out going that N4 direction (Lucan, Kilcock, Moyvalley) or N7 (Castlewarden, Bodenstown, Killeen). Tulfarris is a nice track though.
