Recording From Tv (With No Sky/UPC Box) Onto Recorder Box?

    Hi.
I hope I am posting this in the correct place but anyway...

I have a friend who lives in a rural area and who gets his tv channels via an aerial on the roof (so he does not have a set top Sky or UPC box) but just gets all of his channels via the aerial.

He is looking for some way to record tv programmes from this onto some sort of recorder box (much like you would record onto a Sky plus box).

Does anyone know if this can be done or could anyone point me in the direction of what kind of box could be purchased to do this job?

    Thanks

A Humax "Freeview+ HD" setbox, one is Model Humax HDR-FOXT2. (Not a "Freeview+", "Freesat+" or "Freesat+ HD" model)
    http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10095

Or Tesco "Technika" "Freeview+ HD" setbox Model Technika Smartbox 8320HD ( Not a "Freeview+", "Freesat+" or "Freesat+ HD" model)
    http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-9147.aspx

    The "+" indicates recording
The "HD" included as part of "Freeview" means Irish Digital compatible, Ordinary "Freeview" doesn't work here, even built into a TV that claims otherwise to be HD Ready or Full HD.

Assuming he is in an area with TG4 it's likely to work.

Note an HDTV or Digital TV is not required. A SCART cable connection is used for non-HDTVs, or HDMI if it's an HDTV. The Aerial can loop through the "box". You can watch one channel via SCART from the "Box" while the box records it or any other channel at the same time.

    Hi

Maybe Watty or someone could answer my question on the Humax HDR-FOXT2 500GB PVR. I got this for my mum so that she could record mostly RTE but also the UK channels as we live near the border

It records one time and the next time it doesn't. Error message i get is it couldn't track the program. Would it be because she is using it to watch and record both UK and Irish DTT programs. When I have the EPG on at the top channels the Irish programs will be there on the top half of the screen but BBC1 etc will just be blank. Going down the EPG and clicking on BBC just reverses this ie BBC1/2/Channel5 programs visiible but RTE then disappear.

I expected this PVR to give very few prolems as it cost quite a bit

    Thanks
